Curtin University proudly partnered with FRINGE WORLD, Perth’s biggest annual arts festival, for the first time this year to deliver the ‘Awesome Awaits’ Garden Library. The partnership was a chance to show the diverse variety of festival-goers Curtin’s desire to promote innovation and make tomorrow better.
Visitors enjoyed the fiction and non-fiction books on offer at the library and relaxed under the shade for a good read or borrowed some of the collection to take home. Festival-goers were also encouraged to donate books for others to enjoy.
Curtin staff got involved by donating over 400 books at the start of the festival, and our friendly librarians were constantly on hand to help with queries and deliver daily family storytime sessions for kids and intermittent adult storytime sessions.
The FRINGE WORLD festival has almost doubled in attendance from 370,000 in 2014 to 600,000 in 2015, with the garden library being a favoured destination.
At the end of the festival, all the books at the library were donated to Bus of Books, a local organisation that distributes books across rural and metropolitan WA.
