Professor Ian Lowe, President of the Australian Conservation Foundation
Curtin University of Technology’s Australian Sustainable Development Institute (ASDI), The John Curtin Institute of Public Policy (JCIPP) and the Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute (CUSP) presents a free lecture by Professor Ian Lowe, Emeritus Professor of Science, Technology and Society at Griffith University.
The world is poised to consider how it can phase out carbon from the global economy. After the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) laid out the stark realities of climate change science, the Stern and Garnaut Reports showed the economic imperative of early action, and Al Gore’s, An Inconvenient Truth created a popular following, climate change has become a mainstream political issue on the global agenda. It is now up to the politicians to create the governance required. Are they up to the job? Will Copenhagen be a fizzle or a fanfare for the clean, green economy?
Professor Ian Lowe has been involved in climate change issues for 40 years. He has worked with NGOs, governments at all levels and industry to help with the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. In this seminar, Professor Lowe will reflect on the years of debate and where he sees it going in the week before he heads to the Copenhagen climate change summit.
