The report will provide an overview of the importance of education to the economy and society and the role educational attainment plays in shaping the socio-economic outcomes of individuals’ lives. An overview of the main institutional arrangements and policies governing education will be provided and comparisons between States on key indicators relating to educational access and outcomes.

The focus of the research will be on highlighting the role of education in promoting or reducing inequality in opportunity and inter-generational social mobility, with recommendations for policy and institutional reforms.
