O – Week 

New students get ready for your first semester at Curtin University and join us for 2017’s mid-year O-Week! Head down to the Curtin Bentley campus from Monday 24 – Friday 28 July for a variety of fun activities to het you familiar with uni life!

Winter Concerts

Come down and celebrate 50 years of Curtin University with our Wednesday Winter concerts! With music from the swinging 60’s until the naughty noughties there is something for everyone to enjoy! Groove your way down to the Tim Winton Theatrette to enjoy an hour of music from the good old days between 12.30pm – 1.30pm. We will also provide a complimentary Cup-of-Soup and bread roll to keep you warm during Perth’s chilly months!

Come on down from 12.30pm – 1.30pm on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 9 August – 60s by the Blue Beats Trio
  • Wednesday 13 September – 70s and 80s by the Joi Ride Trio
  • Wednesday 11 October – 90s & Noughties by Mary Emme Trio

Giant Marionette performs ‘String Symphony’

Come down to Henderson Court at 12pm from Tuesday 1st August to Sunday 6th August and be amazed by our resident 5 metre high Giant Marionette performing the spectacular ‘String Symphony’!

‘String Symphony’ explores concepts of connection, community and teamwork through a marionette brought to life by Curtin’s talented Theatre Studies students. The marionette is suspended from a five-metre high truss and controlled by ropes on each side by up to 12 people!

For those who can’t wait Curtin’s Theatre Studies students will be rehearsing with the puppet all day on the 24th and 25th July if you want to take an early sneak peek! After Tuesday’s show at 12.30pm there will be an Artist Talk with String Symphony creator Leon Hendroff who is a graduate from Curtin University’s School of Design, Graphic Design & Illustration.

Don’t miss the marionette illuminated at night during the Theatre Studies show ‘12 Strings and the Scale of Things’ from Tuesday 1st August – Saturday 5th August at 7.00pm. Tickets are $15 from http://payments.curtin.edu.au

Gardening Workshops

Gardening Workshops are back for Semester 2! Learn how to make compost in Atkinson Forum’s green garden cube on Tuesday 1st August.

Students, staff and visitors –  you’re all invited to come along anytime between 1.00pm – 2.00pm. All materials will be provided for you to use and keep for free but of course you can still bring your own if you prefer. This is the fourth of a series of workshops to learn how to make all sorts of cool things!

There will be other workshops later in the semester, so pop these dates in your diary!

  • Tuesday 5 September – Plant Propagation
  • Tuesday 10 October – Edible Planting

Bike Doctor 

The Bike Doctor is coming back to the Hexagon on Thursday August 3! Students, staff and visitors —  make the most of your free check up and bring your bike in to have fixed on the spot for free. Come along any time from 11.00am and 1.00pm. If you can’t make this one the Bike Doctor will be back on Thursday November 2.

No registration required, just come along on the day!

Stair Workout

Move over Jacobs Ladder! Starting from August 1, students, staff and the wider community are all invited to come along to give it all you’ve got in our new weekly stair workout challenge. Come down every Tuesday this semester from 11am to 11.45am on the stairs on building 314! There will be a personal trainer there each week to ensure you are getting the most out of your workout! This event is free and no registration is required.

Open Mic 

If you’re a musician without a stage – we have got you covered! We will be setting up an open acoustic mic in the Hendo Pod in the Lower Henderson Court on Tuesday 8, 15 and 22 between 12pm- 1.30pm. All you need to do is bring down your instrument, plug in and showcase your talents!

Fitness Classes: Pilates

Free pilates classes are held at the Forum from 12.30pm – 1.30pm throughout the semester starting August 2. Students, staff, visitors — you’re all invited to come along with  your workout mat or towel for an invigorating workout which will seriously stabilise and strengthen your core, whilst building body flexibility and endurance. No registration required  just come along on the day.
