Commenting on his appointment Mr Hayes said he was thrilled and honoured to have stewardship of a fantastic team of marketing professionals and such a strong brand.

“I love the fact that every day I get to help inspire people to choose Curtin and further their education, their career and their lives”.

Mr Hayes added that higher education faces challenges from many angles and that marketing has a big role to play in helping universities to thrive and survive in the new world.

“Locally we have proposed federal policy changes, and globally we are facing increased competition as the digital revolution takes hold. The stakes have never been higher.

“Universities need to carve out their unique space in a crowded market and really stand for something. Marketing also needs to work hand-in-glove with teaching areas and IT to ensure that we are delivering the most desirable and seamless student experience.

“Fortunately, Curtin has a strong position in the local market as the most preferred university, known for being innovative and industry-connected. We need to build on those strengths and take a more global approach to our marketing and recruitment activities,” Mr Hayes said.

Curtin Vice-President, Corporate Relations and Development, Valerie Raubenheimer, welcomed the appointment saying Mr Hayes’ had a solid understanding of the marketing environment in the higher education sector.

“Ty brings many years of experience to this role and is well equipped to lead Curtin’s domestic and international marketing team. I look forward to working with him to ensure the on-going impact and success of our marketing plans and brand positioning programs,” Ms Raubenheimer said.
