With his younger brother and teammate Scott Selwood in the audience, the star defender will receive a Bachelor of Commerce (Sports Management) at a ceremony at Curtin’s Bentley Campus.

Adam said while it had been sometimes difficult to balance his training schedule with his studies, there had been a good support team from Curtin behind him.

“I developed good relationships with my teaching staff at Curtin and they helped me juggle my course deadlines with my playing responsibilities,” Adam said.

“During footy season, I always took my text books with me on plane trips to sneak in a couple of extra hours reading time.

“At first I looked a bit out of place, but now there are a quite a few other guys that do it as well.”

Adam said his studies at Curtin have helped prepare him for off-field activities, including his role as board member of the AFL Players’ Association (AFLPA).

“It has been great applying some of the key learnings from the classroom to situations on and off the field,” he said.

“Topics such as dealing with business negotiations and director duties have really helped place me in good stead for my work with AFLPA and the West Coast Eagles.

“At the moment I am working with the administration team at the club one day a week in the area of player recruitment.

“While my passion for football is still alive and strong I would definitely like to continue to work in sports administration in the future.”

Adam will be joined by 330 other graduates from Curtin Business School, including close friend and former West Coast Eagles teammate Kasey Green.
