Science and Engineering students Chris Norman and Thomas Paynter landed the amazing opportunity through an international internship program.

The internship allowed Chris and Thomas to work on separate projects and take ownership for real-world deliverables. The learning was akin to PhD level studies, even though both are still undergraduate students.

“It was really astounding and so great to be in an environment where you were the least intelligent person in the room by a long shot, there was just so much to learn,” Chris said.

Chris and Thomas saw the opportunity advertised through the Faculty of Science and Engineering and Curtin Careers, Employment and Leadership. Both students felt their ability to draw from extracurricular experiences gave them an edge.

“When I applied, I leaned on my experience not necessarily in my classes, but actually with my clubs here at Curtin…and that was really what differentiated me,” Chris said.

“You can achieve anything with the right effort and attitude,” Thomas said while reflecting on the life changing experience.
