Beyond the Bottom Line: Government debt in Australia

Posted on

The Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre invites you to the launch of the next report in its Focus on the States series. The report findings will be presented by BCEC Director Alan Duncan, followed by a panel discussion that brings together unique State and Federal perspectives on the topic, with Dr John Hewson AM and Mr John Langoulant AO providing expert commentary.

Event details

This report will move beyond the rhetoric by adding to the current evidence base on the fiscal position of Federal and State governments. Questions around whether governments face expenditure or revenue problems or both, what the key drivers of government debt are and the likely future implications will be raised and answered. What role should government debt play alongside other public finance instruments in the governments’ armoury? What levels of debt are sustainable, or indeed desirable? How does Australia’s debt position – and Australia’s approach to managing public debt – compare to other countries?
