120 Aboriginal girls from 10 different regional academies located around Australia will participate in a two day basketball tournament at Curtin Stadium. The tournament will be followed by a day of activities held on the university campus, related to Noongar Culture, confidence building and pathways to higher education. For many participants this will be their first trip to Perth and their first opportunity to explore a university campus.
The Girls Academies have been established by Role Models and Leaders Australia to provide mentoring and support to Aboriginal girls aged 12 to 18. The Academies use sport and extra-curricular activities to keep the girls engaged in their education and future. The showcase is hosted by Curtin AHEAD in collaboration with Curtin Stadium, the Centre for Aboriginal Studies and AIME.
Spectators are welcome to attend the basketball tournament on the 3 and 4 June at Curtin Stadium.
