Program

Day 1: Fundamentals of Geology & Ore Deposits

Morning

  • Plate tectonics & rock cycle
  • Common minerals
  • Activity: identifying common minerals
  • Rocks and rock-forming processes: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic

Afternoon

  • Ore deposits types
  • Activity: Identifying main rock types in relation to ore deposits

Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided.

Day 2: Mineral Exploration and Mining Geology

Morning

  • Mineral exploration basics from conceptual to targeting: geophysics and geochemistry. Drilling, sampling, assaying and reporting.
  • Activity: GeoView.WA exercise with base maps.

Afternoon

  • Geological uncertainty in relation to exploration data.
  • Activity: cross-section construction for deposit types to assess uncertainty and reporting.

Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided.

Outcomes

  • Understand of basic geology terminology.
  • Learn to make informed decisions regarding geological projects with what you learn.
  • Work with and in GeoView.WA.
  • Learn to identify various ore deposit types.
  • Be able to cross-section deposit types to assess uncertainty in reporting.
