Teams work on problems that have been submitted by Problem Owners – typically medical researchers, medical organisations, hospitals or government— but they could come from anyone who has a health-related problem they want to solve. The HealthHack kicks off on Friday 23 October at 6 pm and continues all day and night on Saturday 24 concluding in the evening on Sunday 25. Festivities wrap up on the Sunday at 4 pm with judging and prizes.

RSVP: You can register to attend online.

Who participates?

We’re looking for enthusiastic people with skills and experience in data analysis or visualisation, product development, UX research, design, requirements analysis, software (or hardware!) development, testing, problem solving, story telling, and more! Over the course of the event, we’ll build some amazing data visualisations, mash-ups, analytics tools, app prototypes, and even more high tech health products to solve real problems.

Register yourself and we’ll help you find a team for the weekend – or get a team together – to tackle some fascinating problems related to health and medicine.

What happens on the weekend?

Keep an eye on the HealthHack website in the lead-up for challenges and opportunities posted by “problem owners”, and for prizes, including $2000 commercialisation advice from HopgoodGanim. Friday night will be the kick-off, and teams will assemble around challenges. Saturday will be a full day of hacking on solutions, with Food Truck dinner planned for Saturday evening. Sunday morning will give teams further time to prepare their pitches to the judges. Judging will be conducted and prizes awarded Sunday lunchtime and early afternoon.

At the event, we’ll provide:

  • “Problem owners” from a range of health and technology backgrounds
  • Facilitators and mentors to help teams focus, and move forward throughout the event
  • Copious amounts of power, wifi, food (food trucks!) and caffeine, plus childcare if possible
  • A range of developer tools and support over the weekend

We hope to see you there!
