International Summer Program: Perth Zoo

Meet us at the entrance gates of the Zoo at 9AM sharp (on Labouchere Road) to tick off your name and enter. The Zoo is open from 9AM to 5PM daily, and you will have that entire day to explore. Entrance into the zoo has been subsidised by Curtin, so the reduced student contribution is $10.

Join us at the Perth Zoo for a day of animal encounters and exploring some of Australia’s incredible biodiversity, including Perth’s newest baby giraffe Zahara!

Lunch is not provided by Curtin, so please pack a lunch (and be aware that you will need to carry it with you) or bring some money to purchase food at the Zoo restaurants. The Zoo has large picnic areas that can be used for eating. If packing lunches, the Zoo encourages you to bring waste-free lunches, without plastic waste.

Please bring comfortable shoes (the Zoo is very big), lots of sunscreen, a hat, and a water bottle (the zoo has facilities to fill these). Please bring additional money for any souvenirs or snacks that you might want. We encourage students not to bring valuable items including jewellery or identity documents like passports, unless they are being used as photo ID.

This activity is only available to international students currently enrolled in a course at Curtin University, continuing from 2021, or beginning in 2022.

GETTING THERE

By Bus

Bus number 30 & 31 run between Perth Busport (on Wellington St), Elizabeth Quay Bus Station and Perth Zoo’s entrance [stop #11847]. The Zoo recommends boarding at Elizabeth Quay Bus Station for the fastest journey between the Perth CBD and the Zoo (6 mins).

By Train

If coming from the Joondalup or Mandurah Lines – Get off at Elizabeth Quay Train Station and transfer to the Elizabeth Quay Bus Station (next door) to catch Route 30 or 31.

If coming from the Midland, Armadale, Thornlie & Fremantle lines – Get off at Perth Train Station and transfer to the Perth Busport (next door) to catch Route 30 or 31.

By Ferry

Ferries depart from Elizabeth Quay Jetty (Perth CBD) every 15 minutes daily (September to June) or every 30 minutes daily (June to September). Journey time is approximately 10 minutes. Perth Zoo is a 500m walk from the Mends Street Jetty (South Perth) via shops and restaurants.

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM THE ZOO

While at the Zoo, you must not feed or interfere with Zoo animals. Human food can be deadly to many animal species. The animals have carefully balanced diets and their health can be seriously impacted by being fed human foods (or any other food). Feeding the animals is against Zoo rules and is also against the law! Penalties apply (Regulation 12c $600 penalty). All visitors should also remain on paths and walkways.

During the activity, Curtin students are expected to behave according to the Curtin Student Charter. Please familiarise yourself with these expectations prior to registering for this activity as an inability to follow these may lead to your removal from the activity.

Places are limited so register now to book your spot! Please use your Curtin student email to register for the event. Registrations using non-Curtin email addresses will not be valid.

 

Important Information

By signing up to this activity, you declare that you are an international student over the age of 18* who is currently enrolled at Curtin and have read the information and documents above. You also agree to:

  • declare any medical or accessibility requirements that facilitators must be aware of and inform the facilitators of any illnesses or injuries on the day. 
  • behave according to the Curtin Student Charter requirements and accept that any violation of the Charter may result in your removal from the activity.
  • immediately inform the university of your withdrawal from an activity. Any withdrawal 48 hours or less prior to the activity, without reasonable cause, may result in a refund being denied.
