In this seminar, John will talk about his career journey and the difficulties, challenges and opportunities he has faced along the way. Touching on his experience in completing a Master of Business Administration in 2005, followed by the General Management program at Harvard Business School in 2009, John will highlight how this aided his career progression and how his priorities and focus have changed over the course of his career.
About John Galvin
John Galvin has more than 28 years’ experience in the construction and engineering industry in Australia and New Zealand. John graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Engineering in 1988. Since that time, John has completed a Master of Business Administration and the General Management Program at Harvard Business School in Boston. John is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
John has had a varied career working in construction and project management consulting roles in Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and New Zealand. He has worked in a number of different roles, including Site Engineer, Project Manager, General Manager, alliance board roles and as Managing Director of Clifton Coney Group in New Zealand. Currently, John is the Executive General Manager for Georgiou Group, a privately owned building construction, engineering and property development company, delivering major projects across Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales. With more than 35 years’ business experience Georgiou has developed congruent businesses which work hand-in-hand to provide a complete service for its clients. John has overall responsibility for the oversight of a number of Georgiou’s operational business units.
In addition to his operational roles, John has responsibility for Georgiou’s cadet program, reconciliation action plan and gender diversity strategies. These latter responsibilities closely tie in with John’s passion for a more inclusive and diverse society.
