2011 John Curtin Distinguished Professors announced

Eleven outstanding academics are being recognised by Curtin University today through granting them the prestigious title of John Curtin Distinguished Professor.

The title is one of the highest honours the University can award its academic staff. It was introduced in 2005 and has since been awarded to six staff members.

The 2011 recipients are:

• Professor Colin Binns, Faculty of Health Sciences
• Professor Harry Bloch, Curtin Business School
• Professor Igor Bray, Faculty of Science and Engineering
• Professor Barry Fraser, Faculty of Science and Engineering
• Professor Julian Gale, Faculty of Science and Engineering
• Professor Chun-Zhu Li, Faculty of Science and Engineering
• Professor Peter Love, Faculty of Humanities
• Professor Peter Newman, Faculty of Humanities
• Professor Kok Lay Teo, Faculty of Science and Engineering
• Professor Charles Watson, Faculty of Health Sciences
• Professor Simon Wilde, Faculty of Science and Engineering

Professor Jeanette Hacket, Vice-Chancellor of Curtin University said the honour recognised the sustained contribution these senior academics had made to the University.

“I congratulate our new John Curtin Distinguished Professors for their significant academic achievements and dedication to Curtin,” Professor Hacket said.

“They are all worthy recipients of this significant honour.”

John Curtin Distinguished Professors are academics with exceptional teaching or research skills, or scholarly, creative and artistic achievements; a significant record of public service; and an established national or international reputation, as evidenced by fellowships, memberships, awards, citations, publications or a substantial record of invited lectures. The title is awarded for five years, or until the Professor retires or resigns from Curtin.

Current holders of the title include Professor Michael Alpers, Professor Svetha Venkatesh and Professor Robert Kagi.
