Curtin University has awarded its new fire services maintenance contract to ARA Indigenous Services – an Australian business spearheaded by Premiership winning AFL player, Michael O’Loughlin that works to help Indigenous Australians find meaningful employment and training.
The three year contract will see ARA Indigenous Services (ARAIS) deliver statutory preventative and reactive maintenance for approximately 21-thousand pieces of plant and equipment; as well as provide for the employment of an Indigenous apprentice.
Curtin University’s Chief Operating Officer Ian Callahan said the agreement aligns with Curtin’s Elevated Reconciliation Action Plan which strives to acknowledge and celebrate the proud heritage of Australia’s First Peoples.
“The Elevate RAP allows us to think strategically about how we as a university can advance reconciliation and promoting opportunities for career development, sustainable business growth, and economic participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within our sector is part of that,” Mr Callahan said.
“As a Supply Nation certified business, with majority Indigenous ownership and strong leadership from Michael O’Loughlin, ARAIS has achieved proven success in the maintenance services sector while also providing valuable employment opportunities to members of the Indigenous community.
“While Michael is an AFL icon, he’s also been a long-time champion of breaking down barriers and creating better futures for his community through his businesses and Curtin is proud to play a part in that mission.”
ARAIS Managing Director, Michael O’Loughlin said the Curtin contract fits his company’s vision of strengthening partnerships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians through understanding, encouragement and active involvement.

The new ARAIS fire services maintenance contract commenced on 1 February, 2020.
