Curtin University of Technology presents a forum on a very current and critical topic concerning not only the future of Australia but of the world as well: Carbon Management: What are the Big Questions for the Future?

The Forum will tackle the numerous and challenging decisions needed to adapt to climate change, specifically how to manage carbon in Australia. These decisions need to be made at all levels of government, by business, mining and agriculture and by individuals. How Australia responds to the challenge of maintaining economic prosperity while at the same time seriously cutting carbon emissions is going to affect everyone in this country and beyond.

The panel of speakers will consider the pricing of carbon so as to send the right signals to emitters; what new shapes might our cities take if we are to reduce our dependence on cars? How can the power industry balance demand for new power, while promoting maximum energy efficiency through technology change and through consumer behaviour? Finally, is Australian business responding to today’s challenges and turning them into tomorrow’s opportunities?

The Forum will feature the following prominent speakers:

Prof Tony Owen is Professor of Energy Economics at Curtin, and the author of the recent
Owen Report to the NSW government on power generation options.

Mr Doug Aberle is the Managing Director of Western Power, which is responsible for the
distribution and transmission network which delivers power in the South-West Interconnected
System (SWIS)

Prof Peter Newman is Professor of Sustainability Policy at Curtin. His new book is ‘Cities as Sustainable Ecosystems’.

Mr Rob Hogarth is KPMG’s Melbourne-based National Partner in Charge, Climate Change
and Sustainability and advises companies on their carbon management strategy;
