Curtin appoints Director for new Office of Advancement

Curtin University of Technology has appointed a Director for its new Office of Advancement.

Mr Tony Hume comes to Curtin following his position as the inaugural Head of Advancement at the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR).

Curtin Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jeanette Hacket, welcomed Mr Hume to the University and to his role of establishing the Office of Advancement.

“Mr Hume brings with him a strong background in fundraising and philanthropy, and will be a great asset to the University as we develop this new Office to its full potential,” Professor Hacket said.

“The Office of Advancement will play a pivotal role in helping Curtin to become more socially and economically successful to advance our commitment to providing first-rate education, research and service to the community.”

Under Mr Hume the Office of Advancement’s role will be to lead the University’s fundraising function and nurture and expand stakeholder relationships.

Planning and executing philanthropic initiatives for the University will also be a key activity for the area.

Mr Hume will provide strategic and innovative leadership for all aspects of philanthropic activity across the University.

As the inaugural Head of Advancement at WAIMR, Mr Hume was responsible for all fundraising and philanthropic development for the State’s largest adult medical research institute.

Prior to this Mr Hume was at Edith Cowan University (ECU) as Acting Director for Marketing and Development  in 2007, and also Manager of Development and University Alumni  from 2002 to 2006.

In his role at ECU, he was Fundraising Campaign Director for the Vario Health Institute and also managed the ECU Foundation to fund education and research activities at the University.

Mr Hume commenced as Director of the Office of Advancement at Curtin on 22 July 2009.
