Curtin expands global reach with new online Master of Marketing via edX

Curtin University has launched a new fully online Master of Marketing on edX, designed for marketing professionals with a strong focus on meeting industry demands in an increasingly global and digital age.

The Master of Marketing, run by Curtin’s School of Marketing and delivered through the edX online learning platform, will offer 11 courses, which includes courses delivered in the MicroMasters in Marketing in a Digital World program.

Curtin University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Professor Jill Downie said expanding Curtin’s established Master of Marketing course into an online format on edX offered greater flexibility for marketing professionals worldwide to further their qualifications.

“The online Master of Marketing provides flexibility to study while working, either full-time or part-time, offering marketing professionals the opportunity to develop their skills and interact with other students from all over the world,” Professor Downie said.

“It will help professionals expand their professional network and gain a deeper international perspective to the changing nature of marketing in an increasingly digital world.”

edX Chief Executive Officer and Massachusetts Institute of Technology Professor Anant Agarwal said edX was excited to strengthen its partnership with Curtin University by offering a top-ranked online master’s degree in marketing to learners all over the world.

“This announcement comes at a time when the workplace is changing more rapidly than ever before, and employers are in need of highly skilled talent, especially in the fields most impacted by advances in technology,” Professor Agarwal said.

“The Master of Marketing meets this need and also offers learners the option to start with a MicroMasters program on edX that can count towards their full master’s degree. This collaboration with Curtin University is the latest milestone in creating stackable, affordable, and accessible online master’s degrees in subjects that address today’s global skill gaps.”

Curtin University Faculty of Business and Law Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Nigel de Bussy said Curtin’s Master of Marketing was renowned for its industry relevance and recognised across Oceania as one of the leading courses of its kind, and now it would be offered to a wider audience on the international stage.

“The course aims to develop a marketing professional’s ability to identify and analyse marketing management problems, and gain the skills needed to generate innovative marketing strategies,” Professor de Bussy said.

“It also helps students apply critical thinking and analytical abilities to modern marketing challenges, which may assist them take the next step in their career.”

The Master of Marketing builds on Curtin’s Marketing in a Digital World MicroMasters program by expanding students’ understanding of key concepts in global marketing communications, digital marketing, public relations, and user experience design.

Entry to the Master of Marketing is subject to Curtin’s entry requirements, which includes completion of an undergraduate degree and English language proficiency.

Applications for Curtin’s online Master of Marketing are open until Monday, 26 August 2019 for Semester Two, 2019 and Monday, February 24 2020 for Semester One, 2020.

Curtin is the only university in Western Australia in the edX Consortium.
