A Curtin University of Technology student has won a top prize at a prestigious architecture competition for her sustainable designs for a new community music centre and sporting club in Nedlands.

Third-year architecture student Susan Young was a joint winner of the 2009 About Face student competition for her John Leckie Pavilion project.

“I’m honoured to win such an important award because architecture is my passion,”said Ms Young, 21, of East Victoria Park.

Her Curtin classmate, Jason Lenard, 20, of Kalamunda, received a commendation.

Curtin Department of Architecture and Interior Architecture lecturer, Simon Pendal, congratulated Ms Young and Mr Lenard on their outstanding achievements.

The competition is run by the Australian brick industry’s peak body Think Brick Australia to encourage architects to use brick products as building materials.
