Three Curtin University of Technology students will travel to NSW later this month to compete in the inaugural Australian University Crop Competition.

Agribusiness students Cindy Miller, Tywen Dawe and Hilary Farr will represent Curtin’s School of Agriculture and Environment at the two-day competition starting on 25 September.

“This competition is a great opportunity for the students to test their skills against others studying similar degrees,” said Curtin lecturer, Professor Robert Belford.

“I’m confident that our students will do well in the competition.”

Sponsored by Syngenta and initiated by the Grain Growers Association (GGA), the competition takes university students from the classroom to the paddock to assess different seed and grain varieties, crop yield potential and production practices.

The top five students win a four-day New Zealand industry study tour.

Curtin student Shaun Saw will attend the competition as an observer.

In kind support that made these students participation possible was provided by ConsultAg, Northam and Pulse Australia, Perth.
