Professor Sam Spearing, Director of the WA School of Mines, congratulated the scholarship recipients and finalists.

“It is really pleasing to see that of 15 finalists, the WA School of Mines had nine and won three of them,” Professor Spearing said.

“We are very proud of all of them and in fact, of all our students.”

WA Mining Club President Neil Watson said the calibre of the applicants was the best received to date.

“We received almost 200 applications, the largest interest so far, and the quality of candidates was exceptional. It was a very competitive year,” Mr Watson said.

Formed in 1972, the WA Mining Club contributes to the advancement of WA’s mining industry through promoting and encouraging general and technical information as well as knowledge sharing. It offers a number of scholarships annually to encourage students undertaking tertiary studies in the disciplines of environmental science, metallurgy, mining engineering and geology.
