Seven Curtin University researchers have been named among the world’s most influential scientists and social scientists in the 2019 Highly Cited Researchers list released by the Web of Science Group.

The Curtin researchers recognised on the latest list includes John Curtin Distinguished Professor Zongping Shao, John Curtin Distinguished Professor Moses Tade, Professor Sharon Parker, John Curtin Distinguished Professor Zheng-Xiang Li, John Curtin Distinguished Professor Simon Wilde, John Curtin Distinguished Professor Yong Wu and Visiting Professor Mark Chase, from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, United Kingdom.

An additional three researchers with secondary affiliations to Curtin University were also acknowledged on this year’s list, including Dr Xinguang Zhang, from Yantai University, Professor Shaobin Wang, from the University of Adelaide, and Professor Hongqi Sun, from Edith Cowan University.

The annual edition acknowledges world-class researchers for their exceptional research, which is demonstrated by their production of multiple highly cited papers that rank in the top one per cent by citations for field and year in Web of Science.

Curtin University Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research Professor Garry Allison congratulated the Curtin researchers on being named among the world’s most influential researchers.

“These Curtin researchers have been recognised among the most-cited researchers across the globe, demonstrating the world-class standard of the University’s research,” Professor Allison said.

“The University’s 2019 Highly Cited Researchers represent the fields of geosciences, mathematics, plant and animal science, engineering, economics and business and across multiple fields, confirming their standing as global leaders in their fields.

“It is particularly exciting to see ARC Laureate Fellow Professor Sharon Parker, Director of the Centre for Transformative Work Design based in Curtin’s Future of Work Institute, recognised as the University’s first non-science and engineering Highly Cited Researcher.”

The 2019 list recognised more than 6,200 leading researchers in 21 sciences and social sciences fields around the world, including 23 Nobel laureates.

The Highly Cited Researcher List is used by the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) to calculate an institution’s highly cited score and contributes to its overall institutional score.

Web of Science Group, a Clarivate Analytics company, organises the world’s research information to enable academia, corporations, publishers and governments to accelerate the pace of research.
