Curtin University is launching its first series of Bachelor degrees available fully online.

Curtin Online will make available five majors from the Bachelor of Commerce and five majors from the Bachelor of Arts (Humanities) fully online.

Curtin’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education, Professor Robyn Quin, said there is a growing trend in undergraduates enrolling in online courses.

“Curtin University is currently the major provider of fully online courses through Open Universities Australia and has seen phenomenal growth in enrolments,” Professor Quin said.

“We have seen a 150 per cent growth from 8141 enrolments in 2007 to 19,634 in 2009.

“There is a growing expectation from people to be able to work, learn and study whenever and wherever they want to.

“Previously only selected units were available online. Curtin Online takes the next step, fulfilling a demand for increasing flexibility in order for students to balance life and study commitments.”

Esmee Ng from Success, a current Bachelor of Commerce student and single mother to a young child, said she enjoys studying online.

“I have completed five units online. It has benefited my lifestyle in so many ways. I can study in the morning while my daughter is in bed and I listen to i-Lectures on my iPod on the train to work,” Ms Ng said.

“The tutors and lecturers have all been very helpful. I am constantly in contact with them via email and they get back to me within 48-hours.

“Everything I require is available online and the unit controllers are always making sure we have the same information as internal students. I actually feel privileged studying externally because they look after me so well.”

The following majors will be available online for domestic enrolment beginning 2011:

• Bachelor of Commerce: Finance, Management, Marketing, Advertising, Business Law.

• Bachelor of Arts: International Relations, Asian Studies, Sustainable Development, Anthropology and Sociology and Internet Communications.
