Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry has advised that the condition of both students injured in a shooting in New Orleans yesterday continues to improve.

“Both students are awake and alert, though still hospitalised.  Family members of the two young men are either with them or arriving soon,” Professor Terry said.

“Professor Sam Spearing, Director of the Curtin WA School of Mines, will be arriving in New Orleans today and another senior Curtin academic who is in New Orleans on business has also offered to provide support.

“The students and their families are also being supported by the Australian Consulate-General in the United States.

“Over the past 24 hours Curtin has received many messages of concern and offers of assistance from staff and University partners, and is very appreciative of the support.

“The wellbeing of all our students still in New Orleans continues to be our primary focus at this time,” Professor Terry said.
