Western Australia’s five universities congratulate Minister Sue Ellery on her appointment as Minister for Education and Training within the new Western Australian Government.

The universities look forward to working with the new education minister to ensure WA’s higher education sector remains a key priority for the State Government.

Minister Ellery brings extensive experience and knowledge of this critical portfolio having served as Shadow Minister for Education since April 2013. As such, she will be well briefed on the key issues pertaining to the delivery of higher education in WA.

The WA universities particularly welcome the State Government’s proposal to invest $2 million over five years to implement a long-term international education strategy to increase WA’s market share of international students.

WA has a strong tertiary education sector, with five well-regarded universities with comprehensive offerings and strengths in areas of significant demand. WA’s universities provide an excellent platform on which to build international education as a key economic driver for the State.
