Your Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a government-issued reference code that identifies you as someone who has commenced or undertaken education or training within Australia. You keep the same USI for life as it’s your national education number. Please note that you USI is not the same as your Curtin Student ID number.

All Curtin students* need a USI, including international students studying onshore in Australia, students undertaking a Curtin course through Open Universities Australia (OUA), Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students and domestic students who have previously applied for or been issued a Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number (CHESSN).

You can use it to log into the USI Registry’s Student Portal to check or update your USI account details at any time.

Applying for a USI is fast and FREE, and you keep the same USI for life. You can apply for a USI in five minutes.

If you have studied a VET course any time from 1 January 2015 onwards, including while at secondary school, it is most likely you already have a USI.

Until a valid USI is received by the University you will receive a USI sanction that restricts:

  • Viewing of results
  • Obtaining official documents
  • Further enrolments

If you have received a USV sanction, this means that you have supplied a USI which did not pass the validation checks with the USI registry. Ensure that the USI you supplied is active and correct. You can do this by checking your account details through the USI Student Portal.

You can submit your USI to Curtin by following the steps below:

  1. Login to OASIS.
  2. Click on the eStudent tile.
  3. Click the Submit USI/Personal Details tab on the left-hand side.
  4. Enter your USI details and click Submit.

*Currently, international students continuing or completing their course online from overseas or those studying at a non-Australian campus are not required to apply for and submit a USI.
