Humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan

Our thoughts are with students and staff from an Afghan background, as well as members of the Afghan diaspora in Australia, as we witness the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Afghanistan. We are acutely aware of the impact that these events may pose for vulnerable Afghans, including the friends and family members of people in our Curtin community.

Students with family in Afghanistan may be deeply concerned by recent events. Under existing policies they are able to request an assessment extension, or withdraw from units should this become necessary. Any students in this position are encouraged to speak to their Unit Coordinator.

Universities Australia has sent a letter to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, on behalf of universities across the country, seeking urgent support and safe haven for Afghans who are graduates of the Australian education system and may now hold government or private sector positions that could place them at risk. Curtin has supported this joint letter.
