Curtin Business School is actively encouraging more women to study an MBA with the launch of 30 new scholarships as part of the Women in MBA program (WiMBA).
These new scholarships aim to increase the proportion of female MBA students at Curtin Business School from 30 per cent to 40 per cent over the next two years.
About the WiMBA program
Based on the findings of research conducted by Macquarie Graduate School of Management which found that cost and time are the primary barriers to women completing MBA study, the Women in MBAs (WiMBA) program encourages diversity in leadership by partnering with business to identify top female employees and supporting them through an MBA. It is driven by an internal sponsor – a key employee of the corporate partner – who nominates company employees on the basis that they are potential future leaders of the company.
Support from the employer takes three forms:
Financial – Curtin Business School (CBS) is offering 30 scholarships to women to complete their MBA in a partnership with their employer. Each scholarship is worth $20,000. In order to qualify, the corporate partner must contribute a minimum of $10,000 per nominated recipient.
On-the-ground – the employer will provide logistical and practical support to enable the recipient to attend class, undertake additional study and group work and complete assignments.
Guidance and advice – the employer will pair recipients with in-house mentors/sponsors to provide them with guidance, support and advice throughout their MBA program and also in helping them to develop a post-MBA career pathway.
How to apply:
If you are interested in applying for one of these scholarships, your employer must first agree to support you by contributing $10,000 towards the cost of completing the MBA. Your employer must also outline your leadership potential within the organisation and make a case for supporting you through the WiMBA program. As a starting point, we recommend speaking with your line manager or HR team about the initiative and your own leadership goals.
